The 2nd Annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life® Mile Walk, 5k & 10K Run, and Kids’ Relay Race was held on Saturday, April 26th, at Dell Rapids City Park. The event raised just over $2,000 to support the Society’s mission of saving lives from cancer, leaving volunteers and runners very pleased.
“By coming out to run or walk on this beautiful spring morning, the participants certainly did their part to help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer and more birthdays,” said LuAnn Heidebrink, volunteer for the 2014 Relay For Life. “We hope they had some fun and plan to come back to the Park to the Relay For Life event we’re planning for July.”
75 runners and walkers participated in the 5k, 10k, and 1 mile races, which began and ended in the City Park. The Kids’ Relay Race saw 90 area children registered on 22 teams racing around the park.
“More than 4,400 people in our state will face a cancer diagnosis this year,” said Heidebrink. “It’s critical that we come together during events like this run and at Relay to help the American Cancer Society achieve its mission of saving lives by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, by finding cures and by fighting back.”
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Dell Rapids is planned for July 25-26, 2014, at the Dell Rapids City Park. To learn more about Relay For Life, visit www.RelayForLife.org, call LuAnn Heidebrink at 261-8832 or call 361-8277.
