Bulldog Boys Win Battle of Top Teams

Two of the top teams in Class B boys basketball clashed on Monday, January 29th.  The De Smet Bulldogs traveled to Canistota to play the Hawks.  The Bulldogs used a big fourth quarter to take the win 54-36.

For three quarters the game was back and forth.  The first quarter ended with Canistota leading 13-10.  The Hawks were able to maintain their lead by the end of the second quarter with a late three-point shot.  At halftime Canistota led 24-21.  De Smet was able to get the score tied, and going into the fourth quarter, the score was 34-34.  The Bulldogs took advantage of the Hawks getting cold in the fourth quarter.  Canistota made just one field goal, and De Smet outscored the Hawks 20-2 in the final period for the win.

The Bulldogs shot 49% (21-43) overall from the field, 27% (4-15) on three-point shots, and 50% (8-16) from the free-throw line.  The Hawks shot 35% (16-46) overall and 19% (4-21) from three-point area.  Canistota did not have any free-throw attempts.

George Jensen finished with 17 points and five rebounds.  Tom Aughenbaugh added 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists.  Kadyn Fast had eight points, three rebounds, and three steals.  Grant Wilkinson had seven points and three rebounds.  Trace Van Regenmorter ended with five points and 10 rebounds.
