The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals (11-2) won for the sixth straight time after an 82-58 victory over the Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks at home on Thursday, February 2nd.
The Sharks delivered the first blow in the game and had a 20-11 lead with 2:00 to play in the first quarter. The Cardinals finished the quarter on a 7-0 run and cut the lead to 20-18 at the break. St Mary carried that momentum into the middle quarters. The Cardinals outscore the Sharks 22-9 in the second quarter for a 40-29 halftime lead. They then outscored the Sharks 24-14 in the third quarter to build a comfortable 64-43 lead going into the fourth quarter.
St Mary shot 56% (33-59) overall in the game, 50% (10-20) from three-point area, and 6-8 from the free-throw line. Iroquois/Lake Preston shot 47% (24-51) in the game, but just 18% (4-22) on three-point shots and 6-7 from the free-throw line.
Nic Gaspar finished with 27 points and five rebounds. Trevon Beckman had 21 points, nine assists, four steals, and three rebounds. Maverick LeBrun had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Trimmier Hanson also had double-digit points with 13 points along with three rebounds and three assists.
