The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys basketball team cruised to a 60-38 win over the Elkton-Lake Benton Elks in Lake Benton on Monday, January 9th.
The Cardinals dominated from the very start of the game. St Mary led 20-9 at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 33-20 by halftime. The lead continued to grow in the third quarter, and St Mary led 40-31 going into the fourth quarter.
St Mary shot 44% (24-54) overall, 16% (4-25) from the three-point area, and 67% (8-12) from the free-throw line. The Elks finished 33% (15-46) overall, 13% (2-16) from three-point area, and 43% (6-14) from the free-throw line. St Mary took care of the ball all night and only committed six turnovers while forcing 18 Elk turnovers.
Nic Gaspar had 21 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocked shots. Maverick LeBrun had 13 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Trevon Beckman added 11 points, three rebounds, and three steals. CJ Smith had six points, three rebounds, and three assists.
