The St Mary’s Cardinal football team remained undefeated after a huge 50-0 win over the Gayville-Volin Raiders on a wet Friday September night. The Cardinals scored the 50 points in the first two quarters to end the game at halftime.
Thomas LaVoy started the scoring with a 23-yard touchdown run with 9:36 remaining in the first quarter. LaVoy then added an 83-yard punt return for a touchdown with 7:41 on the clock to make the score 12-0. Jake Heinitz had a 28-yard touchdown run with 5:00 left in the quarter. A made two-point conversion made the score 20-0.
Brady Jewett connected with Logan Bauer on an 82-yard touchdown pass with 2:20 to go. Another two-point conversion extended the lead to 28-0. LaVoy scored his third touchdown of the game on a 56-yard run with just 0:13 left in the opening quarter to make the score 34-0.
St Mary’s added two more touchdowns in the second quarter. LaVoy found the end zone for the fourth time on a 53-yard run with 7:13 remaining in the half. Jacob Geraets scored on a one-yard run with 2:45 to go. Both two-point conversions were made for the 50-0 final score.
The Cardinals had 297 yards of total offense, 208 rushing yards and 89 passing yards. Gayville-Volin was held to just 40 yards of offense, 30 passing yards and 10 rushing yards.
LaVoy had four carries for 146 yards and three touchdowns. Heinitz had a carry for 28 yards and a touchdown. Jewett was 2-2 passing for 89 yards and a touchdown. Bauer had a catch for 82 yards and a touchdown. Jacob Flemmer also had a catch for seven yards. Kade Lutt had 4.5 tackles. Geraets finished with four tackles, and Theo Miller had 3.5 tackles.
