The St. Mary Cardinals track team traveled to Garretson for the Jesse James Track Meet on Friday, April 10th, competing against a strong field of teams. The Cardinal team had a strong day at the meet.
On the girls side, Maddyn LeBrun had an outstanding day in the field events, winning the discus with a throw of 121’2″ and the Javelin with a throw of 122’7”, also placing fourth in the shot put at 34’3″. Lauryn LeBrun also had a strong showing, finishing third in the javelin with a throw of 104’5″ and third in the event at 104’5″.
The Lady Cardinals 4×200 Relay consisting of Sophia LaVoy, Madalyn LaVoy, Layla Hanson and Emersyn Herber finished in fifth-place with a time of 1:56.91.
In the distance events, Paige Deuter placed third in the 1600m run with a time of 6:08.04 and added a seventh-place finish in the 300m hurdles. Addy Fiegen finished fifth in the 1600m run in 6:14.98, while Lucy Vargas placed fourth in the 3200m run with a time of 14:23.11.
In the jumps, Madalyn LaVoy earned a third-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 32’2″, while Reagan Griffin cleared 4’6″ to place fourth in the high jump. Layla Hanson had a fourth-place finish in the Long Jump with a leap of 15’4”.
For the boys, the Cardinals were led by Matt Heinemann, who placed second in the 3200m run with a time of 11:19.75. In the 1600m run, Cooper Libis finished third with a time of 5:05.07 and Logan Robinson added a fifth-place finish with a time of 5:26.33.
Pano Skliris completed the 200m dash in 24.78 earning a fifth-place finish for the day.
The Cardinals had success in the relays as well. The 4x100m relay team of Thomas LaVoy, Jake Heinitz, Lincoln LeBrun, and Logan Bauer placed second with a time of 44.56. The 4x200m relay team of LaVoy, LeBrun, Heinitz, and Bauer also finished second in 1:34.44. The sprint medley relay team of LaVoy, LeBrun, Bauer, and Jacob Flemmer claimed first place with a time of 3:45.46.
In the field events, Gavin Pica won the discus with a throw of 134’9″ with Alex Lindeman taking fifth-place with a toss of 117’0”.
