Blackhawks End Season of Cardinal Boys in Region 3B

Playing in their second straight Region 3B game on Tuesday, March 3rd, the St Mary Cardinal boys had their season end in a 43-31 loss to the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks.

The Blackhawks built a six-point of 11-5 by the end of the first quarter.  Neither team had much working offensively in the second quarter.  The two teams combined for a total of just 12 points, and the Blackhawks led 16-12 at halftime.

The Cardinals continued to trail by just four points, 18-14, with 5:30 to play in the third quarter.  Sanborn Central/Woonsocket stayed in front to a 27-22 lead going into the fourth quarter.  St Mary got within three points, 27-24, by scoring the first basket of the fourth quarter.  The Blackhawks, however, went on a 12-3 run in less than two minutes to extend their lead to 39-27 before taking the win 43-31.

St Mary finished the game shooting 28% (12-43) from the field overall, 17% (3-18) on three-point shots, and 57% (4-7) from the free-throw line.  Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was 32% (14-44) shooting overall, 14% (3-22) from three-point area, and 71% (12-17) from the free-throw line.

Trimmier Hanson led the team in scoring with 12 points and had four rebounds.  Peyton Lamb had six points and nine rebounds.  Logan Bauer also had six points with five rebounds.  Lincoln LeBrun ended with three points and five rebounds, and Colter Griffin and Isaac Griffin each had two points.

The Cardinals finished the year with a 9-13 overall record.
