Cardinal Cross Country Teams Optimistic for 2022 Season

Head coach Dalton Houska has a lot of optimism for the upcoming season for the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal cross country teams.

“I expect at least one of our boys to qualify for the state meet this year.  For the girls’ team, I firmly believe that any of our varsity women could qualify for state, and that multiple will.  There are some extremely talented runners in our conference, but I trust my squad to challenge for this year’s conference title and have a strong showing at state,” said Houska.

Girls team will be strong as many are poised to have an excellent season.  Making their cross country debut this season will be sophomores Rachel and Rebecca Heinemann and seventh grader Elizabeth Vogel.  Key runners for the boys team will be lone senior Gabe Nelson and junior Owen Vargas.  Eighth grader Matthew Heniemann and seventh grader Camden Tebay will be first time runners this year.

The season begins on Saturday, August 27th at Deubrook.
