The St. Mary Cross Country team opened up their season today in Salem. After a long offseason of rigorous training, the Cardinals were ready to run in their first meet of the year. Senior Cami Wolles ran the top time for the Cardinal Girls and 8th grader Cooper Libis ran the best time for the Cardinal Boys. Tuesday’s cross country meet saw Wolles, Libis Lead Cardinals in cross country opener.
Girls
For the Girls, in the varsity 5000m Cami Wolles ran the top time for the Cardinal Girls in 23:17.27, good enough for a 13th place finish. Freshman Paige Deuter finished 23rd with a time of 24:06.11. Senior Lucy Vargas finished in 25:33.46 to place 32nd. For Junior Varsity 4000m, 7th grader Adalyn Fiegen finished 2nd with a time of 18:58.22.
Boys
For the boys Varsity team in the 5000m, 8th grader Cooper Libis ran the top mark for the Cardinal boys. Libis finished 14th in a time of 19:27.10. Junior Matthew Heinemann finished in 19th with a time of19:54.30. For the Junior Varsity 4000m, Freshman Logan Robinson finished 6th in 16:58.12. Senior Lukas Gual ran 19:23.52 to finish 46th. In 49th place, 8th grader Bronc Geraets crossed the line in 19:34.94. 8th grader Joseph Gams finished 74th in a time of 21:55.69.
Neither the Cardinal boys nor girls placed as a team with only two runners for each varsity team, needing 3 runners to place. After running in their first meet of the season, the Cardinals will look to improve on their times next time out at Deubrook.
