A night after an exciting home win over Castlewood, the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team traveled to Garretson on Tuesday, October 8th. The Blue Dragons won the match in straight sets by scores of 27-25, 25-13, and 25-13.
Garretson started the opening set with a 3-1 run. They worked their lead to 10-5. The Cardinals chipped away at the lead and would tie the set 16-16. The score would be tied again at 18-18 and 21-21. Garretson scored the next two points for a 23-21 lead, but the Cardinals went on a 3-1 run to tie the score 24-24. St Mary then scored the next point for a 25-24 advantage, but Garretson finished the set on a 3-0 run for the 27-25 win.
The second set was close until about the midway point. The set started with a 2-2 tie. Garretson took an 8-4 lead, but the Cardinals responded to a 9-9 tie. The Blue Dragons then went on a 6-0 to go back in front 15-9. That momentum carried through the rest of the set as they finished with a 10-4 run for a 25-13 win. Garretson continued to rally to start the third set. They built a quick 7-1 lead and extended that lead to 18-5. The Blue Dragons cruised to a 25-13 set three win.
Madala Hanson finished with 20 set assists and 11 digs. Brianna Griffin had eight kills and seven digs. Megan Geraets also had eight kills with two blocks. Reagan Griffin and Jodie Klein both had 14 digs each. Jenna Miller ended with 11 digs, and Emersyn Herber had three kills.
