St Mary Boys Snap Small Skid

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys snapped a small two-game skid and got back into the win column with a 73-62 victory over the Deubrook Area Dolphins on Tuesday, January 23rd.

Both teams shot the ball well in the opening quarter and traded leads throughout.  St Mary ended the first quarter with a small 20-19 lead.  The Dolphins started the second quarter with a 10-0 run for a 29-20 lead with 4:29 to play in the quarter.  The Cardinals rebounded from that and outscored Deubrook 16-5 the rest of the quarter for a 36-34 lead at halftime.

St Mary’s offense then got rolling in the second half.  They scored 18 points in the third quarter and slowly extended their lead to 54-46 going into the fourth quarter.  The Cardinals were able to maintain their lead throughout the fourth quarter for the win.

St Mary shot 49% (26-53) overall in the game, 44% (7-16) from three-point area, and 83% (14-17) from the free-throw line.  Deubrook shot 45% (26-58) overall, 32% (6-19) on three-point shots, and 4-5 from the free-throw line.

Four players finished in double figures for the Cardinals.  Trevon Beckman had 23 points, 15 rebounds, and four assists.  Nic Gaspar added 22 points and two rebounds.  Maverick LeBrun had 16 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.  Trimmier Hanson had 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
