Cardinal Boys Win Region 3B Opener Versus Canistota

The #7 seeded St Mary’s Cardinals hosted the #10 Canistota Hawks in the opening round of the Region 3B Tournament on Monday, March 2nd.  The Cardinals advanced to the next round with a 63-44 win.

The Cardinals started the game with an 8-0 run.  The Hawks cut that lead down to four, 13-9, but St Mary’s finished the quarter with a 5-0 run for an 18-9 lead.  The Cardinals extended the lead to 29-18 by halftime.

Canistota cut the deficit to single digits, 32-24, with 6:25 to play in the third quarter.  St Mary’s finished the quarter on a 19-7 run to take a 51-31 lead into the fourth quarter.  They would score the first seven points of the fourth quarter for a game-high 58-31 lead with 6:00 to play in the game.

St Mary’s shot 45% (25-55) overall in the game, 35% (9-26) on three-point attempts, and 40% (4-10) from the free-throw line.  Canistota was 33% (14-42) shooting overall, 27% (6-22) on three-point shots, and 40% (10-25) from the free-throw line.

Peyton Lamb had 24 points, six rebounds, and three steals.  Trimmier Hanson added 21 points and three assists.  Isaac Griffin ended with five points and six rebounds.  Paxton Beckman, Isaac Ahlers, and Gavin Pica all had three points each.
