The St Mary Cardinal boys earned a DVC Classic win over the Canton C-Hawks at Deubrook High School on Saturday, January 17th. The Cardinals defeated the C-Hawks 55-39 for their second straight win.
St Mary’s worked themselves to a 10-point lead, 15-5, by the end of the first quarter. Canton started the second quarter with a 11-5 run to make the score 20-16 with 4:25 to play. The Cardinals responded with an 11-4 burst and extended the lead to 31-20 by halftime.
St Mary’s continued the momentum in the third quarter with an 8-0 run and pushed their lead to 39-20 with 4:20 to go in the third quarter. Canton would hold St Mary’s scoreless the rest of the quarter and cut the lead to 39-28 going into the fourth quarter. St Mary’s stopped any momentum and outscored the C-Hawks 14-11 in the final quarter.
The Cardinals shot 52% (25-48) from the field overall, 25% (4-16) on three-point shots, and 1-3 from the free-throw line. Canton finished the game shooting 38% (15-39) overall, 13% (2-15) on three-point attempts, and 70% (7-10) from the free-throw line.
Peyton Lamb, named the game’s MVP, finished with 20 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Trimmier Hanson had 12 points, five assists, and four steals. Lincoln LeBrun added eight points. Logan Bauer had five points and three rebounds.
