
Cardinal junior Thomas Lavoy outgained the Jaguars entire offense last Thursday, October 30th, in their quarterfinal game. St Mary’s played host to the Corsica-Stickney Jaguars in what would prove to be a mismatch. The Cards would jump up on the very first play from scrimmage as St Mary’s blew out the Jaguars.
First Quarter; Fast Start Sparks 28-0 Lead
The Cardinals were ready to receive the opening kick when Corsica-Stickney kicked an onside. Kade Lutt would recover for St Mary’s, setting up first and ten from the 45. Senior Lincoln Lebrun took a pitch from Jaxon Baumberger on the first play of the game 55 yards for a touchdown. Although the two-point conversion was no good, the Cards led 6-0 after just 14 seconds. A three and out forced a Jaguar punt. Lavoy took a handoff 49 yards to set up a Trimmier Hanson two-yard touchdown. The Cardinals missed another two-point try, but it was 12-0 early. Carlo Pica would force a fumble which was recovered by Lutt. Hanson and Lavoy would pick up first downs setting up a five-yard Jaxon Baumberger touchdown run.
Lebrun punched in for the two-point making it 20-0. Corsica-Stickney false started on fourth and short on their next drive, consequently, their fourth down try was a yard short, turning the ball back over. Additionally, Hanson threw to Logan Bauer for a 40-yard touchdown. Hanson would run for the pylon for the two-point making it 28-0 and ending the first quarter.

Second Quarter; Jaguars Get One Back, Survive the First Half
On the first drive of the second, the Jaguars fumbled a pitch which Lebrun picked up and ran 45 yards for a touchdown. Hanson threw out for Lavoy for the two-point, 36-0 St Mary’s. Coupled with a Hanson interception, Jacob Geraets fought in for a one-yard touchdown making it 42-0. Corsica-Stickney would finally get into the end zone, making it 42-6, however, the two-point was no good. Lavoy picked up 45 yards on the next drive with Jake Heinitz punching in from five out. Heinitz also took in the two-point, making it 50-6.
Third Quarter; Cardinals End it Early
The third quarter saw the Jaguars burn a ton of the clock. However, Corsica-Stickney couldn’t convert on fourth down, giving the ball to the Cardinals. Hanson would take the snap and immediately look down field to Bauer for a 45-yard touchdown to end the game.
Final
Lavoy outgained the Jaguars entire offense with six carries for 161 yards compared to the Jags 143 yards. Lebrun had eight carries for 116 yards, a touchdown, and a two-point conversion. Hanson finished with eight carries for 34 yards, a touchdown, and a two-point. Heinitz, Baumberger, and Geraets each had a carry, Heinitz for four yards, a touchdown, and a two point, Geraets for a yard, a touchdown, and a two point, and Baumberger for five yards and a touchdown. Logan Bauer had four catches for 120 yards and two touchdowns, Hanson had a catch for 22 yards, and Lavoy caught a two point. Hanson would also throw for 105 yards and two touchdowns with a two point, while Baumberger also threw the ball twice for 37 yards.
Defensively, Gavin Pica led the way with 10.5 tackles, and Lebrun was not far behind with nine and a half tackles with a fumble return for a touchdown. Josh Liebl finished with five tackles. while C. Pica had four. Lutt had three and a half tackles, an interception, and two fumble recoveries. Hanson had a tackle and an interception, and Logan Bauer had two tackles.
After St Mary’s and Lavoy out-gained the Jaguars in blowout fashion, up in Faulkton the Trojans would win their game. This sets up a rematch of the semifinals last season, a win for Faulkton. St Mary’s comes into the game 10-0, with both the highest points per game and lowest points allowed per game. Faulkton (7-3) is fifth in both of those categories.
