After a season where the boys finished 15th at state and the girls finished 16th, the Cardinals look to run to a successful year. St Mary’s returns state runners in junior Matthew Heinemann, 8th grader Cooper Libis, seniors Lucy Vargas and Cami Wolles, and freshman Paige Deuter. Adding a runner from the Cardinals state track 4×800 meter relay team, junior Kade Lutt, the Cardinals will also run senior Lukas Gaul, freshman Logan Robinson, sophomore Elliott Bowers, junior Seth Eining, 8th grader Bronc Geraets, and 7th grader Adalyn Feigen. This Cardinal team will have a mix of experience and untapped potential as they move into 2025. Coach Mitch Roemen will lead the way for the cardinals as St Mary’s cross country looks to run to a successful season.
I was able to reach out to Coach Roemen for comment regarding the expectations for this cross country team. In his response, Roemen seemed ready for this season to start up.
“I’m excited for this upcoming season as I think we can keep pushing ourselves as a team.”
“Our girls team is returning 3 runners in Cami Wolles, Lucy Vargas, and Paige Deuter. They qualified for state last year and are poised to qualify as a team again. Our boys team is returning 2 runners in Matthew Heinemann and Cooper Libis from state. We are looking to compete for the Regions and Conference titles in a very open Region. A big goal for us would be to return both girls and boys teams to the state meet again. This group of runners certainly has the work ethic and tenacity to do so. I’m looking forward to having them compete this upcoming season and as always they set the bar high for themselves.”
