Cardinal Boys Dominate Aberdeen Christian in Opening Round of State B Tournament

The St Mary Cardinals showcased their dominance in the opening round of the 2025 South Dakota State B Boys Basketball Tournament in Aberdeen on Thursday, March 20th.  The Cardinals cruised to a 66-45 win over the Aberdeen Christian Knights.

St Mary jumped out to a strong start in the opening quarter.  The Cardinals outscored the Knights 23-9 in the first quarter.  They continued to extend their lead through the second quarter and took a commanding 38-17 lead into halftime.  The Knights kept pace with St Mary in the third quarter, but the Cardinals still held a 53-31 lead going into the fourth quarter.

The Cardinals shot 46.4% (26-56) overall in the game, 26.3% (5-19) from three-point area, and 81.8% (9-11) from the free-throw line.  Aberdeen Christian shot 31.9% (15-47) overall, 27.8% (5-18) on three-point shots, and 71.4% (10-14) from the free-throw line.  St Mary dominated the boards with 37 total rebounds, including 14 offensive rebounds.

Three players had double figures for the Cardinals.  Trevon Beckman finished with 21 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Maverick LeBrun added 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots.  Trimmier Hanson had 15 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
