The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal football team had their third straight shutout win on Friday, September 6th. The Cardinals traveled to Arlington and came home with a 54-0 victory.
Lincoln LeBrun had a 75-yard touchdown run on St Mary’s first offensive play of the game. Trimmier Hanson threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Thomas LaVoy with 2:32 to go in the first quarter. Both two-point conversions were made to give St Mary a 16-0 lead.
The offense put two more scores on the board in the second quarter. LeBrun had a nine-yard touchdown run with 5:01 to play in the half. Hanson added a 13-yard touchdown run with just :41 on the clock. The Cardinals made both two-point conversions again for a 32-0 lead at halftime.
Hanson threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to LeBrun with 10:09 to play in the third quarter. Hanson had another touchdown pass, this time of 15 yards, to Jake Kopsas with 6:25 to go in the quarter. St Mary got both two-point conversions again to go ahead 48-0. The game-ending touchdown came with 7:15 to play in the game on a seven-yard touchdown run by Kade Lutt.
St Mary had 357 yards of total offense, 213 rushing yards and 144 passing yards. Arlington had just 69 yards of offense, 61 rushing yards and eight passing yards. LeBrun had seven carries for 112 yards and two touchdowns. LaVoy had five carries for 41 yards. Loga Bauer added two carries for 18 yards. Hanson was 4-6 passing for 102 yards and three touchdowns. Kopsas had two catches for 54 yards and a touchdown. LeBruh had a catch for 55 yards and a touchdown. LaVoy also had a catch for 17 yards and a touchdown.
LeBrun also led the team with eight tackles. Jaxon Baumberger had seven tackles. Lutt finished with six tackles and a sack. Keaton Hansen had 5.5 tackles, and Josh Liebl had two tackles and a sack.
“The boys played well. We had a few lulls in the game, but they regrouped and played a good overall game. We have a few things to improve on, but I really liked our effort,” said head coach Ross Flemmer.
