St Mary Cruises to 2024 Football Opening Win

Playing their home games at new locations this year, the St Mary Cardinals didn’t let that impact their home opener on Friday, August 23rd.  The Cardinals defeated Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 38-0 at Dell Rapids High School.

St Mary scored in the first two minutes of the game.  Lincoln LeBrun had a 31-yard touchdown run with 10:17.  A made two-point conversion put the Cardinals ahead 8-0.  The score remained 8-0 the rest of the quarter.  The Cardinals put the game away in the second quarter.  L. LeBrun had a 12-yard touchdown run with 11:47 to play.  Trimmier Hanson threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to L. LeBrun with 7:29 remaining.  Both two-point conversions were make to make the score 24-0.

Thomas LaVoy found the endzone still in the second quarter.  He had a 45-yard run with 2:11 to go in the first half.  The two-point conversion was no good.  The Cardinals took a 30-0 lead into halftime.  Logan Bauer scored the final touchdown of the game on a one-yard run with 9:13 to play in the third quarter.

The Cardinals finished with 224 rushing yards and 117 passing yards for a total of 341 yards of offense.  The Raiders finished with 76 yards of total offense, 70 rushing yards and six passing yards.  L. LeBrun had five carries for 78 yards and two touchdowns.  LaVoy had four carries for 54 yards and a touchdown.  Jacob Flemmer finished with five carries for 33 yards.  Bauer had four carries for 20 yards and a touchdown.  Hanson was 4-6 passing for 112 yards and a touchdown.  L. LeBrun had three catches for 106 yards and a touchdown.

Alex Lindeman had six tackles and a fumble recovery.  Maverick LeBrun finished with six tackles.  Carlo Pica and Kade Lutt both had five tackles each.  Joe Bares had 4.5 tackles and a fumble recovery.  Keaton Hansen had 4.5 tackles and a forced fumble.

“Overall I thought the boys played great tonight.  Our offensive and defensive lines did a great job all night!  Lincoln LeBrun had a heck of a game rushing and receiving.  Trimmier Hanson was spot on passing and did a great job running the offense. We had a lot of guys step up tonight and play some good football,” said head coach Ross Flemmer.
