The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys bounced back into the win column with their third home win over the season on Tuesday, January 2nd. The Cardinals hosted the Garretson Blue Dragons and took the win 72-51.
St Mary was able to build a nine-point lead, 20-11, after a late surge to end the first quarter. They extended that lead to 15 points, 36-21, by halftime. Garretson chipped away at the lead in the third quarter and got within 10 points, but the Cardinal offense got rolling late in the quarter to take a 55-37 lead into the fourth quarter.
THe Cardinals shot 52% (31-60) from the field in the game, 27% (4-15) from three-point area, and 55% (6-11) from the free-throw line. The Blue Dragons were 37% (19-51) shooting overall, 50% (5-10) on three-point attempts, and 67% (8-12) from the free-throw line.
Three players had double figures on the night for the Cardinals. Maverick LeBrun led all scorers with 25 points and had seven rebounds, five assists, and five blocked shots. Trevon Beckman had 19 points, four rebounds, four assists, three steals, and three blocked shots. Nic Gaspar added 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Trimmier Hanson had five points and five rebounds.
