The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys basketball team cruised to a season-opening win at Mitchell Christian High School on Tuesday, December 12th. The Cardinals defeated the Golden Eagles 62-29.
The Cardinals needed a quarter and a half to get the offense rolling. St Mary led by just two points, 13-11, at the end of the first quarter. The lead was 16-13 with 5:00 to play in the second quarter. From that point St Mary got rolling. The Cardinals led 33-15 at halftime. They would outscore the Golden Eagles 21-6 in the third quarter for a 54-21 lead. Both teams scored eight points in the final quarter.
Trevon Beckman had 21 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Nic Gaspar had 14 points and seven rebounds. Maverick LeBrun added 14 poings, 11 rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Owen Vargas had five points and five rebounds. Trimmier Hanson ended with four points, three rebounds, and three assists.
