The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team hosted the Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks on Thursday, September 28th. The Cardinals won the first set, but the Sharks took the next three to win the match. The set scores were 14-25, 25-16, 25-22, and 25-23.
After a small 4-3 lead by the Cardinals, they went ahead 8-4. St Mary was able to maintain their lead at 12-9. They then went on a 6-0 run to extend the lead to 18-9. The lead reached 10 points, 21-11, before the Cardinals won 25-14. The Sharks took a 4-2 lead to start the second set. They kept a slim lead and were still in front 12-10. Iroquois/Lake Preston then went on a 10-1 run for a 22-11 lead and took the second set 25-16.
The Sharks when on an early 7-0 run in the third set to build a 9-2 lead. St Mary cut the lead to 12-8 only to have the Sharks go on a 4-0 run to push the lead to 16-8. The Cardinals rallied and got within a point 22-21. The Sharks led by just one, 23-22, before scoring the final two points for the 25-22 set win. St Mary started the fourth set with a 5-2 lead. After the Sharks tied the score 6-6, the two teams went back and forth. The set was tied at 8-8, 11-11, 13-13, 15-15, and then again 18-18. Iroquois/Lake Preston went on a 4-0 run for a 22-18 lead. The Cardinals got within one 24-23, but the Sharks scored the final point for the 25-23 win.
Brianna Lindeman finished with 31 set assists, 18 digs, three blocks, and two ace serves. Brianna Griffin added 13 kills, 13 digs, and three ace serves. Emy Herber had nine kills, two digs, seven blocks, and three ace serves. Megan Geraets had six kills, five digs, and four blocks. Jaycee Tebay finished with three kills, 17 digs and three ace serves. Jenna Miller had 32 digs, and Jodie Klein had 13 digs. Stephenie Geraets added six digs and a kill.
