The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal football team won their homecoming game against Arlington on Friday, September 15th. St Mary scored 46 straight points and took the win 46-8 at Rickeman Field.
St Mary scored with 10:15 in the opening quarter. Trimmier Hanson lost the ball in the endzone after a three-yard run, but St Mary recovered the ball for a touchdown and a 6-0 lead. Lincoln LeBrun scored on a four-yard touchdown run with 7:14 to play in the quarter. The drive was started by an interception by Camden Gilbert. St Mary led 12-0 after the first quarter.
Lucas Flemmer added a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown with 1:20 to play in the second quarter. Owen Vargas completed a pass to Nic Gaspar for the two-point conversion. Vargas and Gaspar connected on a 15-yard touchdown pass with :28 left in the half, and Hanson scored the two-point conversion. St Mary led 28-0 at halftime.
Gaspar would score on a 13-yard touchdown run with :38 to play in the third quarter to extend the lead to 34-0. Vargas added a 44-yard touchdown pass to L. LeBrun with 11:47 to play in the game. Jake Heinitz had a 10-yard touchdown run with 6:08 to go for a 46-0 lead. Arlington got a four-yard touchdown run with 1:26 remaining in the game.
St Mary finished with 344 yards of total offense, 270 rushing yards and 74 passing yards. Arlington had 209 yards of offense, 210 rushing and -1 passing yards.
Gaspar had nine carries for 76 yards and a touchdown. Flemmer finished with 10 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown. L. LeBrun had seven rushes for 59 yards and a touchdown. Vargas was 6-10 passing for 71 yards and two touchdowns. L. LeBrun had 2 catches for 44 yards and a touchdown. Gaspar had a catch for a touchdown. Maverick LeBrun had two catches for seven yards.
Gaspar also had 9.5 tackles. Flemmer had 7.5 tackles and an interception. Gilbert had six tackles and an interception. Keaton Hansen added six tackles and a fumble recovery. M. LeBrun had five tackles and a sack. Carlo Pica also had an interception.
