The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal golf teams will be young for the 2023 season. Neither the girls nor boys teams have a seniors this year.
The girls team does return four varsity players from a year ago. Rachel Heinemann (sophomore), Rebecca Heinemann (sophomore), Brianna Weiland (freshman), and Carley Roiger (8th grade). They will be joined by Sophia Lack (sophomore), Londyn LaFortune (8th grade), and Allie Hansen (7th grade).
The boys team does not have any returning varsity players from a year ago. This year’s team members are Camden Gilbert (junior), Owen Vargas (junior), Trevon Beckman (sophomore), Levi Gaul (sophomore), Walker Warwick (freshman), and Lukas Gaul (freshman)
“We have four golfers on the girls team that gained valuable varsity experience in the 2022 golf season. I know a number of our players continued to play in the summer SDGA Tour events, so I expect them to be improved in 2023. I will have four new varsity boys players this season. Weather will be one of the biggest obstacles in 2023,” said head coach Blaine Bacon.
This year’s regional tournament will be held at Rocky Run Golf Course for the Cardinals. Coach Bacon also mentioned that he’s looking forward to having the advantage of playing at their home course to qualify a number of their players for the state tournament.
