The Beresford Watchdog football team cruised to a season-opening win in Baltic on Friday, 23rd. The Watchdogs scored in every quarter for a 40-8 victory.
Beresford put two touchdowns on the board in the first quarter. Ashton Oberle had two touchdown passes to Malachi James, one for nine yards and the other for 29 yards. Payden Hoffman made both extra points for a 14-0 lead. Oberle added a 10-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter. James also had a 31-yard rushing touchdown. One of two extra points were made for a 27-0 lead. Baltic was able to get a score before halftime on a 13-yard run and two-point conversion for a 27-8 score.
The Watchdogs extended their lead with a score in both the third and fourth quarters. Landry Sims recovered a fumble in the endzone in the third quarter. Oberle scored again in the fourth quarter on a five-yard touchdown run.
The Watchdogs had 336 yards of total offense, 126 rushing yards and 210 passing yards. Baltic was held to 166 yards of offense, 122 rushing yards and 44 passing yards. Jax Fickbohm had eight carries for 39 yards. Oberle finished with 12 carries for 32 yards and two touchdowns. James had a carry for 31 yards and a touchdown. Sims had five rushes for 22 yards. Oberle was 16-27 passing for 210 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. James had seven catches for 122 yards and two scores. Hayden Homandberg had three catches for 42 yards, and Elias Perez had three catches for 29 yards.
Oberle also had 2.5 tackles and two interceptions defensively. Taten Twedt and Cooper Nelson both had 5.5 tackles each. Kohen Schurch finished with four tackles. Dexton Miller, Hoffman, Tate Lyle, and Joseph Sharpe all had three tackles each.
