The Beresford/Alcester-Hudson 14U Black Sox had their 2023 season come to an end in dramatic fashion in the Region 7A Tournament on Tuesday, July 11th. Vermillion scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 12-11 win.
Vermillion struck first with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Black Sox took the lead in the top of the third with six runs. Vermillion got two runs back in the bottom of the third to make the score 6-5. BAH extended the lead to 8-5 with two runs in the top of the fourth. Vermillion chipped away at the lead getting a run in the fourth and another in the fifth. They took the lead 10-8 after a three-run bottom of the sixth. The Black Sox rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to go ahead 11-10, but Vermillion scored two runs in the bottom of the inning for the win.
Kasen Voss had two hits and two RBIs. Jackson Meyer also had two hits. Ashton Oberle had a double and two RBIs. Cameron Mullinix finished with a single and two RBIs. Ian Henderson added a hit and an RBI. Ben Seeley had a hit, and Lucas Anderson had an RBI. Payden Hoffman pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed seven runs, six earned, on eight hits and seven walks with three strikeouts. Anderson pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed five earned runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
