Beresford to Play for Seventh Place

The Beresford Watchdogs got behind early and couldn’t climb out of a hole against the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies in their second game at the 2023 South Dakota State A Tournament on Friday, June 2nd.  The Huskies built an 8-0 lead and finished with a 14-6 victory.

Elk Point-Jefferson scored three times in the top of the first, added four more in the top of the second, and one more in the top of the third for an 8-0 lead.  Beresford cut the lead in half with four runs in the bottom of the third.  Keely Merrigan scored on an error, and Halle Livingston hit a three-run triple.  Jaiden Johnson scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 8-5.

The Huskies added to their lead with two runs in the top of the sixth.  Reese Olson scored on a wild pitch for Beresford in the bottom of the inning to make the score 10-6.  Elk Point-Jefferson added four more in the top of the seventh for the win.

Livingston had a triple and double with three RBIs.  Johnson had a triple.  Harley Koth finished with a double.  Merrigan and Lily Seivert both had a single.  Brenna Dann pitched seven innings allowing 14 runs, 12 earned, on 16 hits and four walks with six strikeouts.

Beresford will play Lennox in the seventh/eighth place game.
