Late Runs Lift Lennox over Beresford Softball

Beresford had two leads in their softball game against Lennox on Monday, April 17th, but the Orioles scored six late runs to give them the 9-7 win over the Watchdogs.

The Watchdogs scored three times right away in the top of the first inning.  Kennedy Merrigan had an RBI single and then stole home two batters later.  Kate Degen added an RBI triple, and Beresford led 3-0.  Lennox got a run in the bottom of the first and then tied the game 3-3 with two runs in the bottom of the third.

Beresford regained the lead with a run in the top of the fifth.  Merrigan scored on an error to make the score 4-3.  The Orioles, however, got two runs in the bottom of the fifth and then plated four more in the bottom of the sixth for a 9-4 lead.  Beresford mounted a rally in the seventh.  Brenna Dann had a two-run double followed by an RBI single by Degen.  That cut the lead to 9-7, but the next two batters struck out to end the game.

Dann had four hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs.  Merrigan finished with three hits and an RBI.  Degan had two hits, one a triple, and two RBIs.  Reese Olson had two singles.  Ivy Keiser finished with a double, and Victoria Sharpe had a single.  Dann pitched six innings and allowed nine runs, six earned, on 11 hits. and two walks with seven strikeouts.
