Baltic Boys Pulls Away from Fighting Cougars in Fourth Quarter

The Baltic Bulldog boys turned a four-point lead into a 25-point win, 62-37, over the McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars at home on Tuesday, January 27th.

The first three quarters were a battle for the Bulldogs.  McCook Central/Montrose took an early 6-1 lead and extended that lead to 15-6 with 2:30 to play in the first quarter.  The Fighting Cougars continued to lead by nine points, 19-10, at the end of the quarter.  Baltic started to get back on the right track in the second quarter.  They outscored McCook Central/Montrose 17-7 for a 27-26 lead at halftime.

The two teams battled back-and-fourth in the third quarter.  The Bulldogs were able to increase their lead, but it was only to a 38-34 lead going into the fourth quarter.  Baltic then put together a complete quarter.  They outscored the Fighting Cougars 24-3 to pull away for the win.

Baltic shot 52% (26-50) overall, but just 1-12 from three-point area.  They also shot 53% (9-17) from the free-throw line.  McCook Central/Montrose finished the game shooting 33% (13-39) overall, 38% (5-13) on three-point shots, and 6-10 from the free-throw line.

Four players finished in double figures.  Kellen Artz had 17 points and 12 rebounds.  Dylan Runestad added 13 points.  Cooper Garry had 11 points, four steals, two rebounds, and two assists.  Trevor Cuperus ended with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and two assists.
