The Baltic Bulldog football team was faced with a tough task on Friday, September 19th. Baltic traveled to Elk Point to play the number one team in class 11B, the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies. The Huskies dealt the Bulldogs a 56-6 setback.
Elk Point-Jefferson got off to a very quick start. After an interception, the first offensive play was a 17-yard touchdown run with 10:25 in the first quarter. The made extra point gave the Huskies an early 7-0 lead. Their defense forced Baltic to punt on their next drive. Again on the first offensive play, the Huskies scored again. This time on a 50-yard touchdown pass with 8:26 remaining. The extra point pushed the lead to 14-0. Fifteen seconds later Elk Point-Jefferson returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown to make the score 21-0.
Baltic was able to get on the board later in the first quarter. Gavin Skotvold connected with Ben Erickson on a long 54-yard touchdown pass with 3:48 left on the clock. The two-point conversion was no good keeping the score 21-6. Elk Point-Jefferson added one more score before the end of the first quarter. With 2:00 left they had a nine-yard touchdown run and extra point to make the score 28-6.
They Huskies continued to roll in the second quarter. They had a 12-yard touchdown run on the first play of the quarter. With. 7:59 to play in the half, they added a 30-yard touchdown run. The Huskies had one more score before halftime, a 20-yard run with 1:38 remaining. They made two of three extra points in the second quarter and led 48-6 at halftime. The game ended on the 50-point rule after Elk Point-Jefferson returned the second half kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown and then scored the two-point conversion.
Erickson finished with three catches for 57 yards and a touchdown. Bradyn Hanson had five catches for 30 yards. Skotvold was 8-13 passing for 82 yards and a touchdown.
