Baltic Boys Get Important Region 3A Win

The Baltic Bulldog boys traveled to Flandreau for an important Region 3A match-up with the Fliers on Tuesday, February 17th.  The two teams are battling for the second spot in the region standings.  The Bulldogs got the road win, 50-39.

The Fliers took an early lead, 7-4, halfway through the opening quarter.  Baltic responded with a 13-3 run to end the quarter and led 17-10.  Their run continued into the second quarter as they built a 10-point lead, 23-13, with 5:20 remaining in the half.  Flandreau responded with seven straight points to cut the lead to 23-20 going into halftime.

The Bulldogs didn’t let the Flandreau rally rattle them.  They opened the third quarter with a 10-0 run to extend their lead to 33-20 with 5:00 to go.  That early run to start the second half was the key to the win.  They led 39-27 going into the fourth quarter.  The Fliers did cut the lead down to five, 44-39, with 1:35 to play, but the Bulldogs scored the final six points of the game to secure the win.

Baltic shot 42% (17-41) overall in the game, 44% (8-18) from three-point area, and 57% (8-14) from the free-throw line.  Flandreau finished the game shooting 37% (15-41) overall, 32% (6-19) on three-point attempts, and 3-9 from the free-throw line.

Dylan Runestad had 19 points and four rebounds to lead the way.  Kellen Artz added 10 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.  Ben Erickson had nine points, four rebounds, and three steals.  Trevor Cuperus added seven points, 10 rebounds, and three assists.
