The Baltic Bulldogs hosted the West Central Trojans in volleyball action on Tuesday, September 16th. The two teams battled to five-sets as the Trojans took the match by scores of 25-21, 17-25, 16-25, 25-20, and 15-11.
The Trojans took an early 4-3 lead to start the match. They slowly grew that lead to 15-8. The Bulldogs chipped away at the lead and pulled within two points late, 23-21. Unfortunately that was as close as they could get. West Central scored the final two points for the 25-21 win. Baltic opened the second set with a 3-2 lead and then went on a 7-2 run for a 10-4 score. That run kept the Bulldogs in the driver’s seat the rest of the set. They had leads of 13-5, 17-8, and 21-14 before winning 25-17.
The third set started with a 4-2 lead by West Central. Their lead would not last long. Baltic went on a 10-4 run to go in front 12-8. Things kept rolling for Baltic as they built a 20-13 advantage. The Bulldogs took the third set 25-16. The two teams would trade leads in the fourth set. West Central grabbed the first lead at 4-3. Baltic then went ahead 6-4. They continued to lead 12-10, but the Trojans tied the score 13-13. West Central then scored the next four points for a 17-13 advantage. Baltic pulled within in two points, 21-19, but the Trojans finished the set on a 4-1 run to win 25-20 and force a fifth set.
After an early 1-1 tie to start the fifth and final set, West Central went ahead 4-3. Baltic scored two in a row to go in front 5-4. The Trojans answered back with three straight for a 7-5 lead. The Bulldogs tied the score 10-10. West Central, however, went on a 5-1 run to end the match and get the 3-2 win.
