The Baltic Bulldog volleyball team won two matches at the Big East Conference Tournament at Sioux Valley High School on Thursday, September 11th. The Bulldogs defeated Parker/Marion and Sioux Valley.
Baltic 3, Parker/Marion 0
The first set between the Bulldogs and Pheasants was back and forth. The score was tied at 2-2, 4-4, and 6-6 early. The Pheasants took an 11-8 lead, but Baltic scored four in a row to go in front 12-11. The Bulldogs continued to lead 18-17 before finishing the opening set on a 7-2 run for a 25-19 win. Parker/Marion started the second set with a 3-1 lead. Baltic rallied to go in front 6-4. Leading by just one point, 8-7, the Bulldogs went on a 6-0 run for a 14-7 lead.
That run carried them to a 25-14 win. They continued the momentum in the third set. The Bulldogs built a 9-4 lead and kept rolling from there to a score of 21-7 and then to the 25-9 win.
Baltic 3, Sioux Valley 0
All three sets between the Bulldogs and Cossacks were close. Sioux Valley held a slim 3-2 lead to start the first set. After a 6-6 tie, Baltic went ahead 11-9. They slowly kept increasing their lead to a 25-18 win. The second set was back-and-forth. The score was tied 4-4 and 9-9. The Cossacks took a 13-11 lead and pushed it to 17-13. They continued to lead 19-16 only to see Baltic go in front 20-19. The two teams battled hard late. The score was tied 23-23 and 24-24. Sioux Valley had set point at 25-24 and 26-25, but Baltic held strong and scored the final three points for a 28-26 win.
The third set started much like the first two. Baltic had a 4-3 lead early, but the score was tied 7-7. The Cossacks then went in front 13-12 and led 18-15. Baltic went on a 4-1 run to tie the score 19-19. They were able to take a 23-21 win and then took the match with a 25-21 set victory.
