The Baltic Bulldog softball team had a 1-2 record at the Big East Conference Tournament on Saturday, May 24th. The Bulldogs fell to Chester and Howard and earned a win over Parker.
Chester 4, Baltic 3
Baltic scored a run in the top of the first for an early 1-0 lead. Chester would get three runs in the bottom of the inning to go in front 3-1. The Bulldogs tied the game, 3-3, with two runs in the top of the third. Chester, however, got one run in the bottom of the third, which proved to be the game-winning run.
Harper Kortemeyer had two hits with an RBI. Kaylee Siemonsma had a single and an RBI. Ashlyn Klein added a double. Amaris Handsaker, Kya Rollinger, Madyson Determan, and Jordyn Wehde all had one hit each. Charlee Blommer pitched four innings and allowed four earned runs on eight hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
Howard 12, Baltic 9
A four-run fifth inning gave the Tigers the win over Baltic. Howard scored four times in the top of the first inning, but the Bulldogs answered with two runs. The Tigers added three more in the second. Baltic scored just one time, and the score was 7-3 after two innings. Howard would add another run in the top of the third. Baltic would rally for six runs in the bottom of the third to take a 9-8 lead. Howard, however, would get four runs in the top of the fifth and then hold the Bulldogs scoreless in the bottom of the inning for the win.
Handsaker had two hits and two RBIs. Rollinger hard two hits and an RBI. Anna Hoekman added a single and a double. Kortemeyer had a double with an RBI. Klein finished with a single and an RBI. Siemonsma, Ellie Pickett, Determan, and Ryah Peters all had one RBI each. Blommer pitched three innings and allowed four unearned runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Klein pitched one inning allowing seven runs, but just one earned, on a hit and six walks with two strikeouts. Peters pitched one inning and gave up an earned run on three hits with one strikeout.
Baltic 13, Parker 2
Early runs were key for Baltic in their win over the Pheasants. The Bulldog scored five times in the bottom of the first for a 5-0 lead. Parker got two runs in the top of the second, but Baltic added six more in the bottom of the inning and two in the third for a 13-2 lead as neither team scored the remainder of the game.
Rollinger had two triples with four RBIs. Pickett had a single and two RBIs. Wehde had a double. Kortemeyer, Hoekman, and Siemonsma all had a hit. Determan added an RBI. Blommer pitched all five innings and allowed two unearned runs on three hits and three walks with 10 strikeouts.
