The Baltic high school baseball team put together a big rally in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings, but Hanson/Bridgewater/Emery (HBE) scored a run in the top of the eighth and held on for a 10-9 win on Monday, May 12th.
HBE scored a run in the top of the first, but Baltic responded with three in the bottom of the inning for a 3-1 lead. HBE scored three times in the top of the second to go back in front 4-3. Baltic would tie the game, 4-4, with a run in the bottom of the third inning.
The offense picked up for HBE in the middle innings. They scored three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to go in front 9-4. Baltic scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 9-5. Cale Roach started the seventh inning rally by scoring on a passed ball. Brody Hansen had an RBI single to make the score 9-7. With two outs and two on, Braxten Allen drove a two-run triple to center field to tie the game. With the winning run on third, the inning ended on a ground out to go to extra innings. HBE had three straight singles to score a run in the top of the eighth. Baltic was then held scoreless in the bottom of the eighth.
Jackson Goehring had three hits, one a double, and an RBI. Gavin Skotvold had two doubles and an RBI. AJ Grunewaldt had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Roach had two hits. Allen finished with a triple and two RBIs. Hansen added a single and an RBI. Elias Oakley also had a single. Allen pitched six innings and allowed six runs, five earned, on 11 hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Skotvold pitched two innings and allowed four earned runs on four hits with three walks.
