Bulldog Volleyball Takes Second at Big East Tournament

The Baltic Bulldog volleyball team took second place in the Big East Tournament that was held on Thursday, September 14th and Saturday, September 16th.  The first two rounds were held on Thursday with Baltic hosting some matches.  The placing matches were held on Saturday in Salem.

Baltic 3, Flandreau 0

In the opening round of the tournament, the Bulldogs defeated the Flandreau Fliers in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-8, and 25-19.  The Bulldogs held a five point lead, 12-7, in the opening set.  Flandreau cut the lead down to one point, 22-21, but the Bulldogs outscores the Fliers 3-1 to win that opening set.  Baltic cruised to an 11-2 lead to start the second set and took the win 25-8.  The Bulldogs grabbed the early lead in the third set, 5-3.  Flandreau got within a point, 10-9, before Baltic extended the lead to 21-15.  The Bulldogs would win the match with a 25-19 final in the third set.

Baltic 3, Sioux Valley 0

Baltic faced the Sioux Valley Cossacks in the second round of the tournament.  The Bulldogs took an early 4-2 lead to start the match.  The Cossacks tied the score 13-13, but Baltic responded with a 6-1 run for a 19-14 advantage before winning 25-17.  After another 4-2 start in the second set, Baltic scored six in a row for an 8-2 lead.  The lead grew to 19-9.  Sioux Valley fought back to a 22-16 score, but the Bulldogs won 25-18.  The momentum carried into the third set as the Bulldogs started with a 7-1 run.  They led by scores of 16-6, 19-10, and 22-13.  The two teams traded the final points with Baltic winning 25-17.

Chester 3, Baltic 0

The Bulldogs faced the Chester Flyers for the championship match on Saturday.  The Flyers took the match in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-16, and 25-16.  Baltic started the match with a 4-2 lead.  The Bulldogs continued to lead 8-6, but Chester went on a 5-1 run to take an 11-9 lead.  They continued the run to a 20-11 score before winning 25-15.  The Flyers then started the second set on a 7-1 run and stayed in front the entire way.  The lead grew to 15-8 and 23-16 before the 25-16 final.  The third set started with a 4-3 Chester lead.  The two teams stayed closed to an 11-11 tie.  Chester then went on a 5-1 run for a 16-12 advantage.  They pushed the lead to 20-14 and then took the win 25-16.
