The Baltic 14U baseball team pushed their ticket to the state tournament by winning the Region 4B tournament on Tuesday, July 16th. They earned wins over Parker and Garretson.
Baltic 10, Parker 8
The semifinal went back and forth before Baltic scored enough runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win. Baltic took the lead first with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Parker went ahead 3-1 with three in the top of the second. Baltic then scored a run in the bottom of the second and three in the bottom of the third to go back in front 5-3. Parker added two runs in the top of the fourth, and the game was tied 5-5 after four innings of play.
Parker went back in front 6-5 after a run in the top of the fifth. Baltic made sure the lead didn’t last long as they scored two in the bottom of the inning for a 7-6 score. Parker responded again with two more runs in the top of the six to regain the lead 8-7. Baltic then took the final lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 10-8 win.
AJ Gruenwaldt had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Cale Roach finished with two hits, one a double, and three RBIs. Elias Oakley added two hits and an RBI. Brody Hansen had a hit with two RBIs. Gavin Skotvold had a double with an RBI, and Hayden Sunderman had one hit in the game.
Baltic 13, Garretson 3
Garretson took an early lead in the championship game with two runs in the top of the first. Baltic scored one run in the bottom of the inning to make the score 2-1. Baltic would take the lead for good in the bottom of the third. They scored four times for a 5-2 lead. Garretson got back within two runs, 5-3, with a run in the top of the fourth. Baltic, however, put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the fourth and then ended the game on the 10-run rule with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Gruenwaldt had three hits, one a double, and three RBIs. Ben Berg had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Hanson had a single and two RBIs. Skotvold added a double and an RBI. Zach Hagleson and Braeden Turner each had a single and an RBI. Oakley finished with a single.
