The Baltic Bulldog football team hosted the Flandreau Fliers on Friday, September 8th. The Fliers started to pull away in the second quarter and finished with a 34-20 victory.
Both defenses held in the opening quarter, and the score remained tied 0-0 after one quarter of play. Flandreau got on the board first with a 17-yard touchdown pass with 9:58 in the half for a 7-0 lead. Tate Feucht connected with Ben Erickson on a five-yard touchdown pass on the next Baltic drive. A missed extra point kept Flandreau in front 7-6 with 8:04 to play in the second quarter.
The Fliers took almost seven minutes off the clock on their next drive and scored on a four-yard run with 1:23 to go. Baltic fumbled on the ensuing kick-off return, and on the very next play, Flandreau executed a “hook and ladder” play for a 43-yard touchdown. The Fliers led 20-6 with 1:05 left in the half. The score remained 20-6 at halftime.
Flandreau added another score on a 14-yard touchdown pass with 3:42 to play in the third quarter to go ahead 27-6. The Bulldogs cut into the lad moments later on an eight-yard touchdown run by Jackson Goehring. The Fliers led 27-12 with 2:05 left in the third quarter.
The two defenses again held for nearly another quarter. Flandreau put the game away on a 23-yard touchdown pass with 1:28 left in the game. Feucht and Erickson connected again on a 19-yard touchdown pass with just :11 left in the game. A two-point conversion made the final score 34-20.
