Coming off a tournament win, the Baltic Bulldog volleyball team had their first home match of the season on Monday, August 28th. The Bulldogs hosted the Dell Rapids Quarriers, but it was the Quarriers that took the win in straight sets by scores of 28-26, 25-21, and 25-10.
The Quarriers opened the match with an early 6-1 run. They were able to maintain about a four to five point lead until they extended it to 14-7. The lead was still seven points, 17-10, before Baltic made a run. They cut the lead to 21-17 and then eventually tied the score 21-21. Dell Rapids scored the next two points to lead 23-21. They were at set point, 24-21, but the Bulldogs rallied to tie the set 24-24. Baltic took their first lead of the set at 25-24, butDell Rapids scored the next two points for a 26-25 lead. After a 26-26 tie, Dell Rapids got the win 28-26.
Baltic started the second set with a 4-2 run. The set was tied 5-5 and again 7-7. Dell Rapids then went on an 8-0 run for a 15-7 lead. The Quarriers led 17-9, and once again, Baltic made a run. The Bulldogs chipped away at the lead to pull within a point, 20-19. Dell Rapids would end the set on a 5-2 run to go ahead 2-0. Dell Rapids picked up momentum in the third set. After starting with a 6-3 lead, they went on a 10-3 run to extend the lead 16-6 before winning 25-10.
