Baltic Volleyball Loses Close Match to Start Season

The Baltic Bulldog volleyball team started their 2023 season on the road against the Colman-Egan Hawks on Thursday, August 24th.  Colman-Egan took the win in five sets by scores of 19-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21, and 15-10.

The entire match seemed to be a back-and-forth battle.  In the first set after an 11-11 tie, Colman-Egan took a 15-11 lead.  Baltic tied the score 17-17 and then went ahead 20-15.  The Bulldogs ended the first set on a 5-0 run for a 25-19 win.  The second set was tied 16-16 and remained close with Colman-Egan taking a 20-19 advantage.  The CE-Hawks then scored the last five points for a 25-19 win of their own.

The third set was again close.  The two teams were tied 12-12 and traded points to a 17-17 score.  Baltic then went on a 6-1 run for a 23-18 lead before winning the third set 25-21. The Bulldogs started the fourth set on a 5-2 advantage and kept that three-point lead at 11-8.  The CE-Hawks tied the score 11-11.  The two teams traded points again to a 19-19 score.  Colman-Egan then ended the fourth set on a 6-2 run for a 25-21 win.  That momentum helped the CE-Hawks to a 15-10 win in the final set to win the match.

Daynica Witzel finished with 15 kills, 21 digs, four ace serves, and two set assists.  Baily Teveldal had 47 set assists, 24 digs, six kills, and two ace serves.  Meredith Larson added 12 kills and nine digs.  Maiya Fredrickson had eight kills, seven digs, and two ace serves.
