Comeback Falls Short for Baltic Baseball

The Baltic high school club baseball team had their comeback fall just short against Lennox on Wednesday, April 12th.  Baltic scored four times in the top of the seventh, but came up a run short in an 8-7 defeat.

The game was scoreless through the first two innings of play.  Lennox broke through with a run in the bottom of the third.  They then score five times in the bottom of the fourth for a 6-0 lead.  Baltic cut the lead in half with three runs in the top of the fifth.  Tayden Hansen had a two-run single followed by an RBI double by Jose Valadez.  Lennox got two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, which proved to be big runs, to increase the lead to 8-3.

Baltic then put together a rally in the top of the seventh.  They got three of the first four batters of the inning on base to load the bases.  Beau Keith had a two-run single to make the score 8-5.  Two batters later Valadez scored on a wild pitch.  Braxton Allen then added an RBI sacrifice fly, which also moved Keith to third, but the out was the second out of the inning.  With the tying run on third, Lennox got a ground ball to second to end the game.

Hansen had four hits, including a double, and two RBIs.  Valadez had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Keith tallied a single and two RBIs.  Matt Muston and Jackson Goehring each had a single, and Allen had an RBI.  Hansen pitched three innings and allowed one earned run no two hits and a walk with five strikeouts.  Gunner Schultz pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing four earned runs on a hit and two walks.  Allen pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing three earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.
