The Alcester-Hudson Cub softball team started their 2025 season in Sioux Center, IA on Saturday, May 29th at the American State Bank Sports Complex. The Cubs picked up two wins at the classic.
Alcester-Hudson 10, Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy 0
Emma Moller threw seven strong innings allowing just one hit to the Phoenix while striking out 17 batters. The Cubs scored three times in the top of the first. They added two more runs in the top of the third for a 5-0 lead. Alcester-Hudson got two runs in the fifth, two more in the sixth, and one in the seventh to grow the lead to 10-0.
Paxtyn Moller had four hits and an RBI. Delta Pies added three hits and three RBIs. Emma Solberg also had three hits and two RBIs. Jenna Manning and E. Moller had two hits each. Laney Decker had a single with an RBI, and Ava Kingma had a hit.
Alcester-Hudson 5, Castlewood 3
An early lead helped the Cubs to the win over the Warriors. Alcester-Hudson scored three runs in the top of the first. They continued to lead 3-0 until the bottom of the fifth. Castlewood got a run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 3-1. The Cubs scored two big runs in the top of the sixth to make the score 5-1. The Warriors rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Cubs stopped the rally.
Pies had three hits, including a double. E. Moller had two hits, one a double, and an RBI. Jaeley Christensen and P. Moller both had a double and an RBI. Solberg, Manning, and Kingma all had one hit each. Decker finished with two RBIs.
West Central 11, Alcester-Hudson 1
West Central used a big eight-run second inning to help them to a win over the Cubs. Alcester-Hudson scored their lone run on an RBI single by P. Moller in the top of the third. The Trojans scored a run in the bottom of the third and then two more in the bottom of the fourth.
P. Moller had a single and an RBI. Solberg, E. Moller, Pies, and Manning all had one hit each. E. Moller pitched three innings and allowed 11 earned runs on 14 hits with one strikeout.
