Cubs Softball Wins Three at Beresford Tournament

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs softball team won three of their four games at the Beresford Tournament on Saturday, May 4th.  The Cubs had games against Tri-Valley, Sioux Valley, Flandreau, and West Central.

Alcester-Hudson 8, Tri-Valley 6

The Cubs built an early 6-1 lead after two innings and then held off a Mustang rally to win their first game of the day.  Tri-Valley scored one run in the top of the third and then tied the game 6-6 with a four-run top of the fourth inning.  The Cubs got two runs on a two-run double by Emma Moller.  Tri-Valley then went down in order in the top of the fifth giving the Cubs the win.

E. Moller had three hits, two of them doubles, and three RBIs.  Delta Pies had two hits, one a double.  Jenna Manning finished with two singles.  Emma Solberg added a double and an RBI.  Paxtyn Moller had a hit, and Elly Doering had an RBI.  E. Moller pitched five innings and allowed six runs, five earned, on five hits and six walks with 11 strikeouts.

Alcester-Hudson 12, Sioux Valley 4

The Cubs struck early in their second game of the day against the Cossacks.  Alcester-Hudson scored five runs in the bottom of the first and three more in the bottom of the second for an 8-0 lead.  Sioux Valley got one run in the top of the third, but the Cubs added four more in the bottom of the inning for a 12-1.  The Cossacks scored two runs in the fourth and another in the top of the fifth.

Hannah Ahart had three singles and three RBIs.  E. Moller finished with three hits, one a double, and an RBI.  P. Moller also had three hits.  Doering added two singles and two RBIs.  Laney Decker had two hits, one a triple, and an RBI.  Sarah Ebert finished with two hits, including a double, and an RBI.  Pies added a single and two RBIs, and Jaeley Christensen had a single.  E. Moller pitched five innings and allowed four runs, just one earned, on six hits and three walks with nine strikeouts.

Alcester-Hudson 5, Flandreau 1

A five-run bottom of the first inning was enough for the Cubs in their game against the Flandreau Fliers.  . Moller was dominate on the mound allowing just one run, an unearned run in the fourth inning, on just one hit and one walk with 10 strikeouts.

Solberg finished with two hits.  E. Moller also had a double and two RBIs in the first inning.  Doering added a double and an RBI.  P. Moller, Ebert, and Alexis Gray all had one hit each.

West Central 15, Alcester-Hudson 0

In the final game of the day, the Trojans scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning and added four more in the bottom of the third while holding the Cubs hitless in the game that ended on the 15-run rule.  Alcester-Hudson did not have a base runner in the game.

E. Moller pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed 15 runs, but only three earned, on 14 hits and a walk with one strikeout.
