The Alcester-Hudson Cubs boys basketball team hosted the Garretson Blue Dragons on Tuesday, January 16th. The Blue Dragons scored the final 13 points of the game to steal a victory, 50-45.
The Cubs opened the first quarter with an 8-2 run. After the Blue Dragons tied the game 8-8, Alcester-Hudson scored the final two points of the quarter for a 10-8 lead. The Cubs were able to maintain their lead throughout most of the second quarter. Garretson was able to tie the game 23-23 in the final seconds of the first half.
Alcester-Hudson took the lead, 25-23, right away in the third quarter. The Blue Dragons responded with a three-point shot to take their first lead of the game, 26-25. After a 29-29 tie, the Cubs went on an 8-3 run to end the third quarter and lead 37-32 going into the fourth. The Cubs scored first again in the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 39-32. They pushed the lead to eight points, 45-37, on a made free throw with 2:58 to go in the game. That would be the final point of the game for the Cubs. Garretson tied the game 45-45 with 1:45 to play. They would take the lead 47-45 with :51 remaining and then make enough free throws down the stretch to secure the come-from-behind win.
