Cubs Softball Headed to Semifinals

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs softball team hadn’t played a game since May 20th.  They entered the 2023 South Dakota State B Softball Tournament as the #1 seed and got to skip the SoDak 16 round.  The Cubs opened the tournament with a 4-2 win over the #8 seed Hanson Beaverettes in Aberdeen on Thursday, June 1st.

After two scoreless innings, Emma Moller stole home, and Sarah Ebert had an RBI single to put the Cubs ahead 2-0.  Alcester-Hudson extended the lead in the top of the sixth.  Delta Pies had an RBI single to make the score 3-0.  Hanson cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth with two runs.  Jaeley Christensen delivered an RBI double for the Cubs in the top of the seventh.

Ebert had three hits and an RBI.  Pies had two singles and an RBI.  Christensen finished with a double and RBI.  Moller also had a double.  Jenna Manning, Elly Doering, and Ella Serck all had one hit each.  Moller pitched seven innings allowing two earned runs on nine hits and six walks with 13 strikeouts.
