Alcester-Hudson Softball Wins Two at Beresford Tournament

The Alcester-Hudson Cub softball team won two of their three games at the Beresford tournament on Saturday, May 6th.  The Cubs played against Dakota Valley, Gayville-Volin, and Flandreau.

Dakota Valley 16, Alcester-Hudson 15

The Panthers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win a back-and-forth game against the Cubs in pool play.  Both teams scored four runs each in the first inning.  Dakota Valley took the lead, 8-4, with a run in the bottom of the second and three more in the bottom of the third.  The Cubs went ahead 12-8 with an eight-run top of the fourth inning.  They added one more in the top of the fifth to lead 13-8.  The Panthers tied the game, 13-13, with a five-run bottom of the fifth. Each team scored a run in the sixth, and the game was tied 14-14 going into the final inning.  The Cubs scored one run in their half of the seventh, but Dakota Valley tied the game on an RBI sacrifice fly and then scored the winning run with two outs on a wild pitch.

Paxtyn Moller had four hits, including a double and triple, with four RBIs.  Elly Doering also had four hits with an RBI.  Jenna Manning had two singles and two RBIs.  Sarah Ebert and Alexis Gray both had two hits and an RBI each.  Jaeley Christensen added a hit and two RBIs.  Delta Pies finished with a double and an RBI.  Ella Serck and Emma Moller both had a single and an RBI.  E. Moller pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing 14 runs, 11 earned, on 12 hits and five walks with seven strikeouts.

Alcester-Hudson 4, Gayville-Volin 1

The Cubs scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and that was enough to defeat the Gayville-Volin Raiders.  The Raiders got one run in the top of the third inning and were held to just one hit in the game.

P. Moller had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Serck finished with two hits.  Ebert, Christensen, and Doering all had a single and an RBI.  Pies added a single.  E. Moller pitched five innings and allowed one run, unearned, on one hit with no walks and 13 strikeouts.

Alcester-Hudson 15, Flandreau0

After a scoreless inning, the Cub offense got to work in their win over the Fliers.  Alcester-Hudson had one run in the top of the second, but exploded for 12 runs in the top of the third.  They added two more in the top of the fourth inning while collecting 17 hits total in the game.

Doering had three hits, including a home run, and four RBIs.  Ebert had two doubles and two RBIs.  Christensen had two hits and two RBIs.  Serck finished with two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  P. Moller, E. Moller, and Pies all had two hits and an RBI each.  Manning had a double and an RBI, and E Solberg finished with a single.  E. Moller pitched four innings without allowing a run on two hits with six strikeouts.
