Alcester-Hudson Softball Gets Walk-off Win to Start Season

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs started their first ever high school softball season in exciting fashion earning a come-from-behind, walk-off win over the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on Monday, April 10th.  The Cubs scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to get the 7-6 victory.

The Huskies got a run in the top of the first inning for an early 1-0 lead.  The Cubs scored three times in the bottom of the second.  Delta Pies lead off the inning with a solo home run.  Ella Serck earned a bases-loaded walk, and Paxtyn Moller was hit by a pitch with bases loaded to make the score 3-1.   Elk Point-Jefferson scored twice in the top of the third inning, and after three innings of play, the game was tied 3-3.

The Huskies then scored three times in the top of the fourth to regain the lead 6-3.  Serck had an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 6-4.  Jenna Manning had an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, and the score remained 6-5 going into the bottom of the seventh inning.  Elly Doering led off the seventh with a single.  Manning followed with a double, and then Serck had an infield single to load the bases with nobody out.  P. Moller then walked to drive in a run to tie the game 6-6.  After a strikeout, Pies hit a single to left field to drive home Manning for the game-winning run.

Pies finished with three hits (single, double, and home run) with two RBIs.  Serck had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs.  Manning also had three hits, including a double and single, with an RBI.  Sarah Ebert had a double.  Emma Moller, Jaeley Christensen, Emma Solberg, and Doering all had singles.  P. Moller added two RBIs.  E. Moller pitched all seven innings allowing six runs, five earned, on three hits and nine walks with 18 strikeouts.
