The Tri-Valley Mustangs took the Dell Rapids Quarriers to overtime, but Dell Rapids topped the Mustangs in the overtime period for a 22-14 win on Friday, September 26th in Dell Rapids.\u00a0 This was the first loss of the season for the Mustangs.<\/p>\n
Fourth down plays were big in this game.\u00a0 After a scoreless first quarter, Tri-Valley scored on a four-yard touchdown pass from Brady Jewett to Landyn Reiser on the first play of the second quarter.\u00a0 The fourth-down completion gave Tri-Valley a 6-0 lead with 11:57 to go in the first half.<\/p>\n
Dell Rapids put a score on the board late in the second quarter.\u00a0 With 1:02 remaining, the Quarriers scored on a nine-yard run, also on fourth down, to tie the game 6-6.\u00a0 They were able to convert the two-point try to take an 8-6 lead into halftime.<\/p>\n
The third quarter was another scoreless quarter between the two teams.\u00a0 The Mustangs took the lead on the first play of the fourth quarter.\u00a0 On another fourth-down play, Jewett connected with Ty Oyen on an 11-yard pass.\u00a0 Jewett found Connor Glasford in the end zone for the two-point conversion.\u00a0 With 11:55 to go in the game, Tri-Valley led 14-6.<\/p>\n
Dell Rapids was able to get the equalizer with 5:09 to play in the game.\u00a0 They scored on a two-yard run to tie the score 14-14.\u00a0 The Quarriers went for the extra point, but the try banged off the cross bar no good to keep the score tied.<\/p>\n
Each team possessed the ball in the final two minutes of the game.\u00a0 The Mustangs had an opportunity to win the game in regulation.\u00a0 They lined up for a game-winning 32-yard field goal in the final seconds, but the snap went over the head of the holder, and the time expired sending the game into overtime.<\/p>\n
The Quarriers took the ball first in the overtime period.\u00a0 They scored on a one-yard run.\u00a0 Their two-point attempt was also good to give them a 22-14 lead.\u00a0 On a second down play for the Mustangs, Jewett’s pass was intercepted at the goal line to end the game and give Dell Rapids the win.<\/p>\n
