De Smet Locks Down Pipestone in Second Half

The De Smet Bulldogs held the Pipestone Arrows to single digit scoring in each of the last two quarters to help them to a 52-40 victory at the Dakota Valley Conference Border Battle on Saturday, January 14th in Colman.

The Bulldogs led by just two points, 15-13, at the end of the first quarter.  They were only able to add to the lead by just one point, 26-23, by halftime in a physical first half of play.  De Smet was then able to lock down the Arrows in the second half.  Pipestone scored just nine points in the third quarter and eight in the fourth while the Bulldogs scored 26 more in the final two quarters of play.

De Smet shot 43% (17-40) from the field overall, 43% (3-7) from three-point area, and 63% (15-24) from the free-throw line.  Pipestone finished 28% (14-50) overall, 29% (5-17) on three-pointers, and 7-7 from the free-throw line.

Damon Wilkinson had 18 points, 17 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Geroge Jensen had 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists.  Kasen Janssen had nine points and three rebounds.  Thomas Aughenbaugh finished with five points.
