The Dell Rapids 14U baseball team took second at the 2025 South Dakota VFW Bravo Division State Tournament in Clear Lake held Friday, August 8th through Sunday, August 10th.\u00a0 They played two pool-play games on Friday, a two bracket games on Saturday, and then the championship on Sunday.\u00a0 Dell Rapids finished with an overall record of 3-2 on the weekend.<\/p>\n
In the first pool-play game on Friday, Tri-Valley took advantage of eight walks, a hit by pitch, and two errors in the first inning.\u00a0 Dell Rapids scored a run in the top of the first, but Tri-Valley scored 10 times in the bottom of the inning.\u00a0 Neither team scored the rest of the game.<\/p>\n
AJ Brandenburg and Will Price had the only two hits for Dell Rapids.<\/p>\n
In the second game of pool-play, Dell Rapids rebounded with a big win in four innings.\u00a0 Each team scored two times in the first inning for a 2-2 score.\u00a0 Dell Rapids then scored seven times in the bottom of the second.\u00a0 The game ended on the 10-run rule after Dell Rapids scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth.<\/p>\n
Brooks Brende had three hits and an RBI.\u00a0 Price had two hits and three RBIs.\u00a0 Charlie Bollock had two hits, one a triple, and two RBIs.\u00a0 Brandenburg also had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs.\u00a0 Haiden Kaffar had a single and two RBIs.\u00a0 Lucas Peppel had a double, and Owen Bollock had an RBI.<\/p>\n
In the first bracket game on Saturday, Dell Rapids took an early lead against Wagner.\u00a0 They scored a run in the bottom of the first and then three more in the second for a 4-0 lead.\u00a0 Wagner cut the lead in half, 4-2, with two runs in the top of the fourth.\u00a0 Dell Rapids got those two runs back in the bottom of the fifth to back ahead by four, 6-2.\u00a0 Each team scored a run in the sixth inning.<\/p>\n
Kaffar had four hits, including a double, and two RBIs.\u00a0 Price had two singles with an RBI.\u00a0 C. Bollock added a hit with an RBI.\u00a0 Brandenburg and O. Bollock each had a single.\u00a0 Kaffar also pitched 5 1\/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits and four walks with nine strikeouts.<\/p>\n
The win advanced Dell Rapids to the semifinals on Saturday against Winner.\u00a0 After two scoreless innings, Dell Rapids had a big four-run inning in the top of the third to go ahead 4-0.\u00a0 They added a run in the fifth and then one more in the top of the seventh.<\/p>\n
Cam Jones pitched five innings and allowed three hits and three walks with 10 strikeouts.\u00a0 Price pitched two innings and allowed a hit and three walks with three strikeouts.\u00a0 O. Bollock had two hits and two RBIs.\u00a0 Jones also had two hits with an RBI.\u00a0 Brandenburg ended with a single.\u00a0 Price and C. Bollock each had an RBI.<\/p>\n
In the championship game on Sunday, Sisseton rallied late to tie the game and then win in extra innings giving Dell Rapids a second-place finish.\u00a0 Sisseton scored two runs in the top of the second and another in the fourth for a 3-0 lead.\u00a0 Dell Rapids scored two times in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 3-2.\u00a0 They then had a three-run fifth inning to take the lead 5-3.\u00a0 The score remained 5-3 until the top of the seventh.<\/p>\n
Sisseton got an RBI single with one out to cut the lead to 5-4.\u00a0 The next batter hit an RBI sacrifice fly to center field that tied the game 5-5.\u00a0 Dell Rapids was retired in order in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.\u00a0 Neither team had a scoring threat in the eighth inning.\u00a0 Sisseton, however, put together a rally with two outs.\u00a0 They had runners on first and second with two outs.\u00a0 The next seven batters rached, and Sisseton scored six times for an 11-5 lead.\u00a0 Dell Rapids got their first two batters on base in the bottom of the ninth, but they were unable to score.<\/p>\n
