The Dell Rapids Quarrier softball team took second place at the Dak-12 Tournament in Sioux Falls on Monday, April 28th.\u00a0 Dell Rapids earned wins over Lennox, Tri-Valley, and Madison before falling to West Central in the championship game.<\/p>\n
The Quarriers took the lead in the second inning with nine runs to lead them to a win.\u00a0 The Orioles scored a run in the top of the first.\u00a0 Dell Rapids then scored nine times in the second for a 9-1 lead.\u00a0 They added four more in the third for a 13-1 advantage.\u00a0 Both teams scored a run in the fourth.\u00a0 The Quarriers held Lennox scoreless in the top of the fifth for the win.<\/p>\n
Lexi Scherff had four hits and an RBI.\u00a0 Katie Kvigne had three hits, including a double and a home run, with an RBI.\u00a0 Addison Van’t Hof had three hits as well, including a triple, and an RBI.\u00a0 Emma Lanpher ended with a single and home run with three RBIs.\u00a0 Rylee Halverson had a home run and three RBIs.\u00a0 Paige Trewin added a single and three RBIs.\u00a0 Elly Olson and Kayleigh Gillette both had a double.\u00a0 Kvigne pitched five innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits with 11 strikeouts.<\/p>\n
The Quarriers scored five straight runs late in the game to get the win over the Mustangs.\u00a0 After two scoreless innings, the Mustangs took the lead, 1-0, with a run in the bottom of third.\u00a0 Dell Rapids grabbed the lead in the top of the fourth with two runs.\u00a0 They added three more in the top of the fifth for a 5-1 lead.\u00a0 Tri-Valley got just one run back in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.<\/p>\n
Kvigne had two hits and an RBI.\u00a0 Trewin ended with a single and an RBI.\u00a0 Halverson had a single, and Olson added an RBI.\u00a0 Kvigne pitched five innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits with seven strikeouts.<\/p>\n
A 10-run fourth inning helped Dell Rapids to a come-from-behind win against the Bulldogs.\u00a0 Dell Rapids scored one run in the top of the first, but Madison scored three times in the bottom of the inning for a 3-1 lead.\u00a0 The Quarriers cut the lead to 3-2 with a run in the top of the third.\u00a0 The Bulldogs had another three-run bottom of the inning to extend the lead to 6-2.\u00a0 Dell Rapids then had 10 runs in the top of the fourth to take a 12-6 lead.\u00a0 Madison scored two more times in the bottom of the fifth, but that wasn’t enough to overtake the Quarriers.<\/p>\n
Lanpher had three hits, two of those doubles, with two RBIs.\u00a0 Halverson had a home run and single with four RBIs.\u00a0 Sylea Sykes had two hits, one a home run, and two RBIs.\u00a0 Van’t Hof added two singles and an RBI.\u00a0 Scherff and Olson each had a single and RBI.\u00a0 Kayleigh Gillette and Josie Price both had a hit as well.\u00a0 Kvigne pitched 2 2\/3 innings and allowed five earned runs on two hits and a walk with six strikeouts.\u00a0 Scherff pitched two innings and allowed two unearned runs on four hits.\u00a0 Emily Baker pitched 1\/3 of an inning and allowed an earned run on a hit with one strikeout.<\/p>\n
The Trojans held off the Quarriers to claim the tournament title, 5-3.\u00a0 Neither team scored in the first two innings.\u00a0 West Central scored four times in the bottom of the third for a 4-0 lead.\u00a0 Dell Rapids got one run in the top of the fourth, West Central got that run back in the bottom of the inning.\u00a0 The Quarriers got two runs on a two-out, two-run double in the top of the fifth by Lanpher, but the Trojans held off any more of a rally.<\/p>\n
